At Brunskill Family Funerals we are here to help, and really care about what we do. We wanted to give you a clear idea of the costs involved with a funeral ceremony, to help you plan and prepare.
Brunskill Family Funerals can also provide a number of options for each package. These are just a few of the more common additional services, though we are willing to help with any request you may have. Alternative coffins from our coffin range are also available for an additional cost.
The cost of funerals is typically separated into two types: the disbursements and the Funeral Director's charges (our packages and extras). The prices of our three funeral packages do not include disbursements.

In order for us to keep our overheads down and pass the savings on to you, we do require cleared funds one week prior to the funeral taking place. We will always provide written quotations, and confirm if any are subject to change. Payment can be made by bank transfer, cash, DSS/DWP payments or debit card.

These are the extras families most often ask us about. Nothing here is compulsory, and we are always willing to help with any request you may have, however unusual.
Floral tributes vary depending on seasonal flowers.
Disbursements
These are the third-party fees we need to pay in advance for the funeral to proceed. They are unavoidable and separate from the funeral director's costs. Some of these are set fees while others vary, depending on the area they are in, whether a third party is privately managed and owned, or if they are run by local authorities. The three main disbursements are the religious minister or funeral celebrant (approximately £250), the crematorium or cemetery costs, and the purchase of a grave or the digging fee.

For a new grave you will also need to pay for the plot; for an existing grave with a memorial in place you may need to pay a removal or replacement fee. The cemetery may charge a number of other fees.
Standardised price list
All funeral directors are legally required to publish a price list for a standardised set of products and services. This is to help you think through your options and make choices, and to allow you to compare prices between different funeral directors, because prices can vary.

This is a funeral where family and friends may choose to have a ceremony, event or service for the deceased person, but they do not attend the burial or cremation itself.
The burial fee, sometimes called the interment fee, is the charge made for digging and closing a new grave, or for reopening and closing an existing grave. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland you will usually need to pay doctors' fees as well: the charge for two doctors to sign the Medical Certificates for Cremation. Please discuss any specific religious, belief-based and cultural requirements that you have with the funeral director.
The funeral director can give you a full list of what they can supply. They are likely to charge for these additional products and services, so you may choose to take care of some arrangements without their involvement, or you can use a different supplier.

Dedicated support and advice for families in your local area. Whatever has just happened, one phone call is enough to start putting things in order.
Following a death at a private residence or nursing home from natural causes, it is likely that the person may have been unwell for some time, had an underlying serious illness or condition, or simply reached old age. In this instance the death will need to be confirmed by a registered nurse, doctor or other qualified person.
This will then allow arrangements to be made for the collection of your loved one. Once you are ready for this to happen, a Funeral Director will need to be called to transfer the deceased to a mortuary or private chapel of rest. This could be outside of office hours during the night, or at the weekend. Brunskill Family Funerals is available 24/7 for such calls.
If the death occurs in a hospice or hospital ward it is most likely that they have facilities available to care for the person that has died, in which case this will happen on site and will be taken care of by the nursing staff in attendance.
When the necessary documentation and registration has been finalised then the Funeral Director can attend to collect your loved one from the place of death, once clearance has been given to do so, usually during normal working hours.
In the above two scenarios the GP or doctor who attended the patient and saw them within the last 28 days will be able to complete the Medical Cause of Death Certificate. This will be forwarded electronically by the GP or hospital to the relevant Registration District and a Registrar will contact you to arrange the registration.
It may be that the death was sudden or unexpected, or the doctor who attends is unable to ascertain for sure the exact cause of death. In these circumstances the Coroner will become involved, and it is quite likely that a post-mortem will be scheduled at the Coroner's Public Mortuary to confirm what the cause of death was, so the death can then be registered and the body released back into the care of the Funeral Director.
All other paperwork we will provide and complete together with you or by post.

The choice of hymns, prayers and readings from religious texts can be tailored to the individual, whether they were a personal favourite of theirs in life, or if the wording holds a particular meaning that reflects the individual's personality or beliefs. No matter their faith, we'll ensure the service accurately reflects their beliefs and traditions.
If your loved one was an Atheist, a non-practising member of a faith, or otherwise did not wish to have a ceremony with a particular religious influence, we are happy to accommodate this.
Non-religious ceremonies are a great opportunity to focus on the life of the individual, their achievements and their story. Family members are welcome to provide information and stories about their loved one, as well as their favourite songs, to help us arrange the service and truly reflect their personality and what they meant to you.
There is no right or wrong way to conduct proceedings. All that matters is remembering the best parts about your family member's life and paying your respects upon their passing.

My Funeral Wishes

By taking the initiative and setting out what you want now, you can get on with living your life, knowing that when the time comes your loved ones will know what you wanted and be spared from having to make difficult decisions.
To help you do this, Dying Matters and the National Association of Funeral Directors have produced 'My Funeral Wishes'. It's a simple form which lets you create a personal funeral plan that reflects you as an individual. We will be glad to advise and talk anything over with you no matter how big or small. We can then also hold a copy of the form and help your family and friends fulfil your wishes when the time comes.
